FIFA 23 crossplay: between which consoles and console generations it works

The long-awaited news of FIFA fans was made official in July: FIFA 23 can be played crossplay, that is, between different consoles. Those with Playstation systems will be able to challenge those with Xbox. The only thing is the generations.

FIFA 23, CONSOLE AND CROSSPLAY GENERATIONS

In FIFA 23, cross-play will be available for players of both platform generations. The PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions of FIFA 23 will be compatible with each other. PS4 owners will be able to challenge Xbox One users and vice versa.

Activate/DEACTIVATE CROSSPLAY

When a player starts FIFA 23, crossplay is automatically enabled. This setting can be changed by enabling the on-screen notification that appears when the main menu is displayed after the first game start.

For Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players, crossplay functionality will only be enabled on first boot if console-level settings allow crossplay. Crossplay mode can be enabled/disabled through the online settings screen found in FUT, VOLTA, and the FIFA main menu.

CROSSPLAY IN WHICH FIFA 23 MODES?

FIFA 23 crossplay will be available from launch in the following game modes: FUT Division Rivals (excluding Co-Op), FUT Champions, FUT Ultimate Online Draft, FUT Online Friendlies (excluding Co-Op), FUT Play with a Friend , Online Friendlies , Online Seasons (except Co-Op Seasons) and the Virtual Bundesliga competitive game mode available for players based in Germany.

Crossplay is initially enabled for all players upon launching FIFA 23 for the first time, if the platform settings allow it, and can be disabled at any time. Online Friends Crossplay: Active for Online Friendly and FUT Play with a Friend mode. Crossplay against random players: active for FUT Online Friendly, FUT Online Seasons, FUT Rivals, FUT Champions and FUT Online Draft modes.

CROSSPLAY AND CLUB PRO

Due to the technical complexity of implementing cross-play, modes that bring players together, such as Pro Club, will not be available at this time. However, EA Sports has announced a possible update in the coming months to include these modes during the FIFA 23 season.

CROSSYPLAY AND FUT MARKET

With the addition of FUT crossplay for FIFA 23, the FUT transfer market will be expanded to include cross-platform functionality. The FUT transfer market will now be consolidated across generations, except for PC and Switch, which will continue to have their own separate transfer markets.

What does that mean ? So if you put a player up for sale on Playstation 5, for example, a user using FIFA 23 on Google Stadia will be able to see and interact with them. Cross-play transfers are possible between PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia. On the other hand, PC and Nintendo Switch do not share the FUT transfer market with any other platform. This FUT Transfer Market update will apply to all FUT players, regardless of a player’s cross-play enabled or disabled status.

SOCIAL EA: HOW TO USE CROSSPLAY

The EA Social widget – which is still under development and new features may appear between August and September – to allow players to search, add and send/receive invites across multiple platforms. Where is it located? This button is located in the lower right corner of the main menu in FIFA 23. It is also available on other screens during gameplay, including the game mode menus and the pause menu in online multiplayer matches.

The “friends map” in EA Social will show all friends a player has added through their local platform list and all friends added through the EA network. There are several indicators: online, offline, platform used and any incompatibility between different generations.

Within EA Social, the player can send and receive friend requests and game invites from users of both platforms and cross-platform invites. When an invitation is sent from both platforms, players will receive the standard platform-specific invitation notification on their screen, which they can accept or decline. At the same time, additional invitations are also sent through EA Social.

FIND FRIENDS ON EA SOCIAL

Players can also search and find their friends on the local platform through EA Social, to send them an EA Friend Request. However, it is necessary to know the exact name of the friend and enter it. For example, if the username is FIFA23, it cannot be found by just typing FIFA23.
