What is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the third installment of the video game license developed by CD Projekt RED and inspired by the series of books The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski. As with its predecessors, we bring the sorcerer Geralt of Rivia to an RPG that takes place in a dark fantasy world. The game concludes the trilogy that was started in 2007 and became a resounding success. With its 40 million copies sold and its GOTY title at the Game Awards 2015, he largely contributed to making the license a must in the video game landscape and even pop culture (hence the various Netflix series planned).

What is the storyline of The Witcher 3?

The Witcher 3 is the direct sequel to The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Following the events of the latter, an unprecedented war broke out between the Nilfgaard Empire and the Northern Kingdoms. Geralt de Riv, for his part, learns that his adopted daughter, Ciri, has finally been seen in the Velen region. Unfortunately, the latter never stays in one place for long as he is chased by the Wild Hunt, a troop of ghostly horsemen who symbolize bad omens. Geralt is given a mission by Emhyr var Emreis (Ciri’s biological father): find the girl before the Wild Hunt. In his adventure, he will cross paths with familiar faces such as Yennefer, Triss, Dandelion or even Zoltan, and take part despite himself in the conflicts that disturb his world.

What improvements does this version bring?

Who said the transition to the new gen, of course, many technical improvements. So, The Witcher 3 will offer two new modes: a 60 fps mode and a 4K mode (at 30 fps). Visually, players will also enjoy ray tracing, improved textures and densified decoration. In other words, the rendering should be more detailed and realistic. And everything will be more pleasant to discover thanks to shorter loading times.

On the gameplay side, there will also be improvements. This version should take advantage of the DualSense features on the PS5. So we should expect a more immersive experience thanks to haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. In addition to minor improvements such as changing the camera position, spell shortcuts or filters, this version will also fix one of the game’s big flaws: the very poor fall damage. And lovers of free exploration will be happy to know that the interface will offer more options, such as the ability to filter (multiple) points of interest.

Will there be new things?

In addition to improvements, the game will offer a new experience. After seven years of existence, The Witcher 3 will actually offer a mode that has become essential to the game: Picture mode. With the beautiful environments offered by The Witcher 3, there will be enough to take great shots. Some fan-made mods will also be included in the game.

But the big news is above all the free DLCs inspired by the Netflix series. The Witcher. Will the new gen update be free?

People who already own the game will be able to update their version to take advantage of all the new features and improvements, free of charge. Very good news for players who want to go on an adventure in better conditions and to discover the details of this new version. Of course it will be possible to transfer your backup easily. Only trophies cannot be kept from old gen version to new gen.

Note that an update to the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions will also be rolled out so players on these platforms can also take advantage of some new features, including Netflix DLCs.

What is the release date of the new gen version?

The new gen update and the purchase of the digital version will be available from December 14 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. A physical release date is planned for later, although no date has been announced yet. As for the Nintendo Switch, it should receive an update later.
