Based on Qualcomm’s qualified AEC-Q100 chipsets, Quectel’s new line of modules includes the AG59xH series which includes Qualcomm’s SA525M, and the AG59xE series which includes Qualcomm’s SA522M. Similar to Quectel’s other automotive products, the AG59x modules comply with the IATF 16949:2016 international automotive quality management system and meet the high demands of automotive equipment. Extremely robust, the AG59x series offers high performance even in high temperature environments.
“We are excited to launch the highly anticipated 5G NR Release 16 module in global automotive markets. Its significant improvements in latency and extremely high reliability are important for autonomous driving applications, said Manfred Lindacher, Vice President Global Sales, Automotive International, Quectel Wireless Solutions. The combination of its many advantages makes our AG59x series an excellent choice for a wide range of automotive applications, including telematics boxes, telematics control units, C-V2X systems, in-vehicle units and roadside units. .”
The AG59x modules comply with the 3GPP Release 16 specification. They are compatible with 5G NR standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes, and are backward compatible with existing LTE, WCDMA and GSM networks, allowing of these connected to areas where current 5G NR has not been deployed. In addition, their DSDS (Dual SIM Dual Standby) technology can, if necessary, help to overcome poor signal coverage.
AG59x supports 4 x 4 downlink Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology that greatly improves wireless communication performance and optimizes data speed. AG59xH provides a maximum downstream rate of 4.3 Gbps and a maximum upload rate of 1 Gbps for 5G NR, while AG59xE provides a maximum downstream rate of 2.4 Gbps and a maximum maximum value of 550 Mbps. With these faster data rates, emergency data and user diagnostic data can be transferred in real time with higher reliability.
The AG59x, which can optionally support direct C-V2X PC5 communications, provides high-performance vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and roadside infrastructure (V2I) communications, improving efficiency and traffic management safety. The module includes a powerful application processor with up to 20KDMIPS computing power, which can be used to run C-V2X stacks and applications. It also integrates an ECDSA engine that assumes C-V2X verification capability.
Fully integrated, the AG59x module further offers flexible GNSS positioning services, including dual-frequency L1+L5/L1+L2 GNSS (optional), dead reckoning (DR), and PPE+ data correction service tool that provides fast and accurate location and positioning services.
Available as an LGA package, the AG59x is pin-to-pin compatible with Quectel’s previous generation 5G NR AG55xQ and AG57xQ automotive modules, making it very easy for automotive OEMs and global Tier 1 customers to upgrade their device for a simple direct replacement. The AG59x offers a variety of interfaces, including PCIe 3.0, USB 2.0 and 3.1, SDIO, I2S, SPI, I2C, UART, PCM, ADC, (U)SIM, 1PPS and GPIO. It is also compatible with RGMII and SGMII interfaces simultaneously, which greatly improves the flexibility of embedded Ethernet.
Quectel’s AG59x series is complemented by a set of high performance antennas, already used in the self-driving car market. Quectel also offers custom antennas that fit different vehicle configurations. The Quectel range of integrated antennas, which integrate several technologies such as 5G, 4G and GNSS, thus offer a very flexible and reliable antenna solution for automotive applications.
Engineering samples of the AG59x modules will be available in the first half of 2023, with multiple variants to suit different global markets.
