Result ? Overall, TikTok took the crown with 672 million downloads worldwide, for the third time in a row. The Chinese giant is also establishing itself in the United States with 99 million downloads in 2022. The company Bytedance had a busy year in 2022 with more than a billion combined downloads between TikTok and CapCut , a video editing software widely used in China’s social network. and downloaded 357 million times worldwide in 2022.
Meta trails only its Asian competitor Instagram (548 million downloads) and WhatsApp (424 million downloads)respectively are in second and third place in the world ranking, while Facebook is in 8th position, behind Telegram which took 6th place with 310 million downloads.
In the “Entertainment” category, TikTok once again leads the way, ahead of Netflix and YouTube. Also in the United States, the Chinese giant has overtaken streaming platforms.
Among the most downloaded social networks, TikTok is not in the ranking. The platform is primarily defined as an entertainment platform. Instagram is the beneficiary of this situation with 547 million downloads worldwide in 2022, followed by WhatsApp with 424 million downloads and Telegram, 310 million. Meta is widely present in Facebook, Messenger and Facebook Lite ranking, respectively, 4th, 5th and 7th. In the United States, Mark Zuckerberg’s company was a big hit by being the leader in the first four places with, in order: Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook.
