Compagnie EZ3’s “Jeux de Société” is the new creation of choreographer and dancer Ezio Schiavulli. This co-production with the Pôle Spectacle Vivant of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges will be presented this Friday, January 20, at 8:30 pm, on the Espace Georges-Sadoul stage.
Board Games plunge into the heart of processes of integration: how within a group, social identities are constructed and created, the complex network of power relations, the ties and breakdown of relations of person. At first playful, the piece gradually wears down the dancers and the audience, evoking increasingly strong and mixed emotions.
A cinematic approach
Through a short film we discover six dancers filmed in a wasteland where we predict that they will appear in the transformation, each one endowed with a language, an aesthetic that characterizes their personalities.
Different pieces at each performance
The games between the dancers will create a different creation every night. The rules are codified but the sequence and the outcome are chosen in real time, leaving performers-turned-players the freedom to juggle between categories and situations.
A unique musical creation
Board Games establish a strong relationship between choreographic writing and musical composition. The dancers design and record during the piece various musical tableaux, which are composed and mixed into a sound architecture related to the choreographic score.
Desire for freedom and need to belong
From this micro-society that was born before our eyes, Ezio Schiavulli brought back the rules and norms, the basic naivety, the energy given and spent and the search for freedom of self-expression. He deploys a wide register of dance techniques in a vast movement that occupies space. The use of a language that unfolds with fluidity between actions and sounds offers the possibility of intimate mixing of two registers, the concrete, realistic approach, represented by sounds and the evocation of the dream, of utopia, visualized through dance. .
In this question, in today’s midst, of identities and affiliations, Ezio Schiavulli reveals a plea for accepting risk, of loss in order to gain authenticity and autonomy. It illuminates the inexorable pendulum between the need to belong and the desire to emancipate oneself that is specific to human societies.
